Description
***Painted from life behind where I live and along a road I often walk.***
The Empress tree is a mid-spring blooming tree. The flowers are a delicate lavender with a touch of yellow on the lowest petal. The fragrance is intense and carries far and wide. Named for Anna Pavlovna, daughter of Czar Paul I, empress tree Paulownia tomentosa is native to China, where its wood has been used for more than 1000 years for making furniture, musicals instruments, carvings, pots, bowls, and spoons. The Japanese prize it highly for making sandals.
