Title
Autorretrato con Jorongo
Artist
Rand Burns
Medium
Painting - Oil On Canvas
Description
Painted in oil from a mirror, I have included the self in a landscape environment with canvas before me. Clouds are an important part of this painting, since they are a favorite to paint. The jacket is called an jorongo Mexico. A mirror offers the best study of complete introspection, which a camera never records.

This is such a great painting! Very good work with the oils. Loved your quote that a mirror offers introspection in a way a camera can't record
Rand Burns replied:
Thank you Chance. Yes, I have always felt this about the brush, paints and self portraits. I appreciate your comment and insight always.

Wow Randy . You always amaze me . Your gallery is really exceptional and wonderful . I have never seen such a portrait of the self and yes it is true that even a camera cannot give such a feel . The background and yourself being in the foreground is so brilliantly portrayed here . Indeed you are a master at painting brother . Your style is unique .
Rand Burns replied:
Tsc, thank you for visiting this self portrait from memories of days in Old Mexico. I appreciate your kind comment about my work and style. Thank you for your friendship and your support always. God bless you.

A fun thing to see after returning to your webpages here is the transition in self portraits over time. It is great to see both the photographs and these great paintings...a journey through time. The clouds and greenery of the landscape have small moving textural qualities so similar to the curls in your hair here..it all seems like it is moving and enhanced with the moving light source F/L
Rand Burns replied:
Nancy, it is always interesting to see the changes in an artist from their portraits. Funny how time does things. I love your comment on the clouds and hair. You point out interesting things. Thank you for the F/L here.

The artist himself. Nice work. It looks like artist, Randy, reflecting on the art with himself. A landscape within.
Rand Burns replied:
Thank you Michael. In this self portrait I included the clouds I love so much, the landscape I love to paint and my canvas. Yes, this is a deep reflection, not only of the self, but the joy of life around me.

A face full of enigmas ...as portraits should be, wonders in our lives that gives us moments of enjoyment when trying to read them. Wonderfully done my friend. You are right the sky is magnificent!! You are teaching me new things about Mexico...I have seen this jackets but never knew how they are called...maybe because in Colima is always hot? F/L.
Rand Burns replied:
Clotilde, great to hear from you. thank you for your in depth perception of the self portrait. I know your vision is rich just by viewing your wonderful art. Will need to study up more on Colima. It sounds beautiful. Appreciate the F/L!
