Danza De Los Voladores
Artist
Rand Burns
Medium
Painting - Acrylic On Canvas
Description
A man stands atop the pole on one foot playing a flute-like instrument. Below him 4 men spiral around the pole. My memories of seeing this ancient ceremony south of Puebla influenced me to paint the scene. Surrounding the area is the desert and pyramids of Mexico. Everyone watches this event in silence and amazement.

Another wonderful painting, Randy! Love the textures in the clouds and on the ground! Beautifully done! I could never be that guy at the top of the pole...my balance is too bad! Nor could I spin upside down around the pole! Amazing that they can do that! l/f

Great story telling scene Randy! I wonder why they have to be upside down. I would be dizzy and nauseous! l/f
Rand Burns replied:
Linda, so would I, but it is part of the ceremony. I really feel for the guy at the top of the pole. Eyes closed while playing a flute and moving in a circle! Thank you for the l/f.
