The Mississippi River area here has several abandoned shacks in desolate locations. Even though there is minimum upkeep, the sense of what once was intrigued me to paint this particular one. Broken memories, dreams and hopes left behind. The memories of who they were is paid tribute to here.

One really gets the feeling of a Sunday morning in this old home visited only by a single cardinal. Fine work.

Glad you noticed the cardinal and thanking you for your kind comment on 'Seep Ridge On Sunday' Skip.

Rand Burns replied:
Thank you for your revisit and share on Pinterest. The old building is falling in slowly, but still standing for now.

Randy,I find myself looking for the pumpkins, scarecrows and goblins to fill out what I thought was a Halloween scene! Then, read your narrative, and it saddens me to see what you intended to convey! I see it now, as that dilapidated place, much like one in my family (from a couple of generations ago) that was dragged out of its country woods "home", moved to and "reconstructed" as a display at the county museum. It's now a very lovely restored piece of Americana. Either way, this painting is a wonderful example of your vast talents! L/F
Rand Burns replied:
Marian, thank you for your comment on this special place in time. It is a place I still visit often because of its mystery and timeless quality. So glad you enjoyed this work and can relate to its unique beauty. I appreciate your comment and the F/L.

You know how to get the old heartstrings strumming Randy...wonderfully nostaglic painting.
Rand Burns replied:
Thank you Skip. It makes my day knowing this image touched you. Was just at this very sight today, so ironic receiving your comment here. It is a special place in the middle of no where. My kind of area.
Guido Strambio

Lois Bryan
Just saw this beauty on FB and had to come visit full size. Beautiful story-telling, charming work. I've driven past structures like this one all my life. Some with a dozen raggedy kids running around outside ... and over the years ... have watched the old houses become abandoned and begin to crumble. But they always, always tug at the heart. This is a classic vision of the process. The flowers to the side, the comfy bench under the tree (limbs removed) ... right down to the cardinal in the tree. All, all speak volumes ... if we only take a moment to listen. Beautiful. Beautiful. l/f and t and p
Rand Burns replied:
Lois, thank you so much from visiting 'Seep Ridge On Sunday' from FB. I am glad you enjoy places like this too. 'Speak volumes' these places do. I love them so much and go often during settled weather of spring and summer. I imagine living here and wonder of the lives who did. Thank you for the l/f and t and p.
